Managing Successful Projects is a two-day program in which participant teams work through a project management process using a case study. The case emphasizes real-world, practical application and the program frequently challenges participants to respond to unexpected changes. The program also requires participants to hone the critical skills of communication, gaining consensus, problem-solving, meeting and coordinating, change management, and team-building. The project management process phases are:
- Phase IFocusing the Project: define a projects purpose, scope, and boundaries; identify key stakeholders including the sponsor, primary and secondary customers, and team members; develop early consensus about key project specifications
- Phase IIDesigning the Project: analyze communication needs and plan communication strategies; define tasks; budget resources; develop a detailed project plan
- Phase IIIImplementing the Project: identify and limit risks using problem-solving strategies at the individual and team level; plan effective and efficient project team meetings; effectively monitor plan progress and make mid-course adjustments
- Phase IVTransferring Control: evaluate project success and ensure a smooth transfer of responsibility for support and maintenance of project outcomes into ongoing corporate operations
