The Performer
Create Partnerships for Personal Growth
Program Benefits
The Performer, from The Real Learning Company, reduces turnover and improves productivity by building strong relationships between employees and managers. Through a series of structured experiences, employees build awareness of their strengths, values and motivations. They learn about their managers perspectives and communication style, and develop strategies to work better with them. The Performer put the responsibility for development where it belongs on the employee and demonstrates the commitment of the organization to help each employee get the most of their talents.
Key Program Results
The Performer is an extremely powerful way to achieve increased manager-employee communication, developmental planning and improved productivity. These results have a larger business impact, including
- Reduced turnover and improved morale
- Improved alignment of employees with manager goals, resulting in improved individual and unit goal achievement
- Better awareness of and utilization of internal talents
- Improved identification of high potential employees.
Critical Applications
Upon completion of The Performer, employees are charged with having a developmental conversation with their manager. This conversation itself serves a positive purpose in clarifying communication issues between manager and employee, and can also result in:
- Creating a learning plan for the employee
- Creating a job rotation plan to build employee skills
- Establishing new performance commitments from the employee, or support commitments from the manager
- Developing new approaches to existing performance challenges that make better use of employee talents.
Learning Outcomes
The Performer creates a partnership in personal growth that helps employees:
- Realize the importance and power of taking responsibility for their own development in their current job
- Understand the relationship between job satisfaction, goal alignment, and individual performance growth
- Gain insight into their key strengths and areas that need improvement
- Understand their own and their managers communication styles
- Prepare for an open dialog with their manager about their personal development
Program Description
Prior to attending The Performer, participants and their managers complete independent assessments of the performer's job skills and priorities. The one-day seminar begins with an exercise and table discussion which highlights the impact of job satisfaction and goal alignment on personal performance. Participants then utilize their own and their manager's views of job priorities and skills to prepare a personal development plan focused on improving both job satisfaction and achievement.
The participants explore the critical skills needed for their current job and how their personal skills, talents, and values align. They later integrate their manager's feedback into their job profile and determine how their views compare with those of their manager.
Participants culminate their day by creating a discussion plan to review talents, gaps, and ideas with their manager in the context of a forward-looking development plan. Participants use the plan to structure a development discussion with their manager, practicing the discussion and working through a series of exercises geared to maximize the plan's effectiveness. The final result is a collaborative plan immediately applicable in the performer's current job.
Implementation/Customization
The Performer is implemented as a full-day session. The program requires one trained facilitator who can handle up to eight teams of six people each. Case studies are customized around current organizational issues, culture, and challenges.
The Performer is part of Real Learning's Performance Mastery System, a suite of integrated products, tools, and processes designed to create sustained alignment and engagement.
