Organizations are investing millions in AI tools, training, and infrastructure. Yet many leaders are still asking the same question:

Why isn’t AI adoption happening faster?

The answer lies in understanding the beliefs, mindsets, and workplace conditions that shape how people engage with AI every day.

That’s why our colleagues at BTS developed the AI Index. Recently launched globally with 4,000 MetLife employees, the Index is grounded in decades of psychological research, including the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT).

It measures four proven drivers of technology adoption: belief in value, confidence and ability, social signals and expectations, and support and resources.

The assessment itself is a simple experience. Participants spend 15-20 minutes swiping through 108 interactive cards, followed by some deeper-dive questions and optional open-ended responses that capture what’s really getting in the way of adoption. Each participant receives a personalized report highlighting strengths, opportunities, and development suggestions.

For organizations, the real value comes from the aggregate data.

Via a rich dashboard of filterable data at their fingertips, leaders gain visibility into patterns across teams, functions, geographies, and tenure groups—revealing where enthusiasm exists, where resistance is emerging, where support systems are breaking down, and where clearer expectations or resources may be needed.

This isn’t simply an AI or tech conversation. It’s a future-of-work conversation that reveals the human factors shaping every AI transformation.

Every organization is navigating how humans and intelligent technologies will work together.  The organizations that thrive won’t  be the ones with the most tools—they’ll be the ones that best understand how their people adapt, learn, experiment, and embrace new ways of working.
