Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
Inspiration has an expiration
The applause fades. The learning shouldn’t.
“It’s no longer good enough to train salespeople and then look to coaching as an afterthought.”
— John Hoskins and David Pearson, Level Five Selling
It’s that time of year again. Sales kickoffs, leadership meetings, and other big learning events are taking shape. Venues, speakers, agendas, themes. The works.
But here’s a question worth asking before the planning gets too far along: What’s the plan for the Monday after everyone goes home?
Great events can inspire, energize, and align people around new priorities. But turning that excitement into lasting behavior change takes something more: consistent, effective coaching.
And that’s where things often fall apart.
Managers return to competing priorities. Coaching conversations get postponed. New skills go unpracticed. And before long, old habits return.
For talent development professionals, the opportunity is to plan for reinforcement as deliberately as we plan the event itself. That means equipping managers to coach, creating opportunities to practice, and making follow-through part of the experience rather than an afterthought.
The event creates the momentum. Coaching keeps it moving.
Because what matters most isn’t what people learn in the room. It’s what they do differently afterward.
We’ve got some great ideas for that next big event you’re planning for keynotes, workshops, and sustaining the momentum all year. Talk to your Advantage partner or contact us!
