Talent Development Tuesday - Threat or opportunity? (goggles artwork)

Threat or opportunity?

“Impact Players wear opportunity goggles.
Liz Wiseman in her new book, Impact Players

Liz Wiseman has done it again. The Multipliers author, researcher, and top leadership thinker we already know and love for her groundbreaking book and the official Multipliers business simulation we proudly promote and facilitate, has launched a new book this week based on another mystery she has researched and resolved.

Multipliers was the result of her quest to learn why some leaders are able to inspire people to do great things by unleashing their talent and capabilities while others can, quite by accident, take the wind out of someone’s sails and diminish their potential before it has a chance to take flight.

This time, she set out to discover why some people play at their full potential when others remain underutilized. What she found out is the basis for her newest book, Impact Players: How to Take the Lead, Play Bigger, and Multiply Your Impact.

Impact Players, she says, see opportunities where others typically see threats. For example, when you see a bee, do you fear the swarm that may be nearby, or do you figure out how to build a hive and harvest the honey?

Wiseman calls these brilliant professionals “Impact Players.” Employees want to be them, and employers want to hire them. The book is a framework for becoming one of them.

Impact Players are energized by disruptions that often deter others. Looking through an opportunity lens, they see a challenge as a job to be done rather than as a distraction:

“When others may have freaked out or checked out, Impact Players dove into the chaos head-on, much as a savvy ocean swimmer dives into and through a massive oncoming wave rather than panicking and being tumbled in the surf.”

Order your copy of Impact Players here, where you’ll find a special offer for an exclusive digital chapter as well as Liz’s companion workbook, How to Tap Into Your Native Genius.

Congratulations, Liz! We can’t wait to adjust our goggles and dive in!
