'I am finding a place on the mess decks or library, so everyone can read the encouraging words.'

Capt. J.J. "Yank" Cummings shared leadership lessons from a lifetime of outstanding military service at our annual give-back event Dec. 1. As part of the event, we solicited greetings and well wishes from those who pre-registered so we could include them in a care package we would be sending to the men and women serving abroad the USS George H.W. Bush.

This week, we received word from their commanding officer that the goodies and a 3x5-foot banner we created containing all of your greetings have arrived aboard the ship and are being distributed. The care package included 15 boxes of hand-crafted caramels and other goodies from AvenueSweets, a company owned by Bruce and Agnes Jones, longtime next-door neighbors of our President & CEO Jonathan Hodge.

J.J. shared the following email with us:

Yank,We received 14 of 15 boxes today.  They are AWESOME!!!The Sailors are going to love these upscale goodies.  You are going to remind so many Sailors of home. The banner is unbelievable.  It is hanging in my office right now, but I am finding a place on the mess decks or library, so everyone can read the encouraging words. Please pass my most sincere thanks to the many contributors of the boxes...I cannot thank you enough ... these packages will make an incredible impact, reminding our Sailors that people appreciate their hard work and sacrifice.Happy New Year!  Keep making a difference!CrustyCAPT Dave "Crusty" PollardCommanding OfficerUSS GEORGE H.
