Efficiency is just the appetizer.
Amplitude is the main course.
Last week I was working with a partner here at APG to design a learning journey for a client. We had a solid concept.
Then we asked AI to review it — not just from our perspective, but from 3 very different voices: the CEO, our talent development partner, and, most importantly, the participant.
It was like opening three new windows in the same room.
The concept didn’t just improve; it doubled in quality.
Having AI “wear many hats” exploded our thinking.
That’s amplitude.
From faster to further
AI for efficiency? Sure. Automate the repetitive stuff. Shave minutes off a task. Clear the clutter. That’s valuable.
But efficiency is the appetizer.
Amplitude is the main course.
It’s where AI doesn’t just help you move faster; it helps you see and create in ways you couldn’t alone. It multiplies your strengths. It covers your gaps. And it opens doors you didn’t even know were there.
Practical moves for amplitude
Explode a strength
- If you’re great at storytelling, have AI throw out fresh angles, metaphors, or openings you’d never dream up.
- If you’re a connector, ask AI to reveal patterns across people, projects, or ideas.
Backfill a weakness
- Hate crunching numbers? Have AI find the patterns and hand you the story.
- Struggle to be concise? Let AI cut the noise while keeping your tone intact.
See through multiple lenses
- Assign AI a role (CEO, client, frontline employee) and have it evaluate your idea from that point of view.
- Let those perspectives stretch your thinking.
3 questions to sit with this week
- What’s one strength you could turn up to an 11 with AI as your partner?
- What’s one task you avoid that AI could take the first pass at?
- If AI freed you from the boring 20% of your work, what would you do with the space you get back?
This week’s experiment: The Amplitude Challenge
Pick one project this week.
- Find a part that plays to your strengths and use AI to expand it or add new layers.
- Find a part that’s not your sweet spot and let AI draft or outline it for you.
- Share the results with a colleague. Notice what changed — in the work, and in how you showed up.
AI can make you efficient. But that’s the floor.
The real win is when you and AI start creating in ways neither of you could alone.
See you next season,
—Jon
