Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
Merging onto the roundabout
“People lead with a ton of heart here.
That’s the secret sauce. That’s the core.”
– Chris Harry, TEKsystems/Allegis Group
No more 4-way stops.
Chris Harry, Chief Talent and Learning Officer at TEKsystems and one of our VIP clients, joined our weekly APG partner meeting yesterday to share his perspectives and what he called the most significant shift in talent development in recent years — the breakdown of silos and the creation of on-ramps to an integrated OD, talent, learning & enablement roundabout.
The result? Cross-functional collaboration, richer dialogue, better decision-making, and stronger business outcomes.
At its center are the organization’s culture, core values, processes, and technologies that unify once-disparate groups around a single, interconnected, unstoppable strategic force.
In his role, Chris helps drive transformation across Allegis Group, a $13.5B global talent enterprise that hires 1,000 college graduates every year. Their goal: Help their people grow as human beings—and become great at what they do.
At Allegis, it’s their mantra: “Better you, best us.”
From his 25-year career in L&D, Chris shared what’s changing, what’s not, and what’s next:
- What’s changing: Silos are giving way to ecosystems of integrated content, strategies, and technologies. Attention spans are shrinking (“rivaling a friendly goldfish”), and while “we could AI our brains out,” learning design must have purpose. New roles like “bot engineers” and “community managers” are emerging.
- What’s staying the same: The importance of culture, relationships, and coming together to learn. Core values are the secret sauce to sustained growth. “Learning in the flow of work” is finally moving from concept to reality as better tech helps to shorten the forgetting curve.
- The path forward: Agility is key. As diverse teams gather at the learning table, partners who can draft into the roundabout—and adapt to the ecosystem—will win. The behemoth LMS is giving way to nimble, niche stacks that meet evolving needs.
Thank you, Chris, for the inspiration and your deep insight. We’re proud to be a partner!
Thank you, also, to our Cincinnati-based Advantage Partners Peg Ruppert and Amy Kahn, who have been working closely with Chris on a number of L&D initiatives over the past 5 years. We’re proud of YOU!
