Talent Development Tuesday: Psychological safety in a hybrid world (icon of a heart-shaped lock)

Psychological safety in a hybrid world

“Psychological safety is not at odds with having tough conversations –
it is what allows us to have tough conversations.

Amy Edmondson

Last week, Advantage Partner Lori Urban, a certified BlueEQ™ facilitator for building emotional intelligence in organizations, conducted a session on leading with psychological safety in the context of the future of work. That session, part of our free back-to-school series, has been one of our most engaging to date. Clearly, the topic is resonating with leaders who are grappling with the realities and complexities of the hybrid workplace landscape.

Psychological safety is the No.1 factor to team success. It’s how leaders keep their best and brightest talent engaged. It’s how organizations accelerate performance while creating a culture that everyone wants to be a part of. Creating an environment of inclusion, collaboration, high candor, and engagement for hybrid work environments is a learnable skillset that all leaders and individuals can master.

If you’re part of or managing a team that includes both in-office and remote contributors working from home, we have a checklist from Lori’s session with some tips on how to create a psychologically safety environment in a hybrid world. If you missed the session or would like to know more about leading with psychological safety, we have a workshop we’d love to tell you more about!

One great thing for 09.28.21 – Amy Edmondson, the Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at Harvard Business School, introduced the construct of “team psychological safety” that became a core tool in Google’s re:Work guide for teams. In her TEDx talk, Edmondson offers 3 things individuals can do to foster team psychological safety.  More great things
